Otitis Media In Infancy
Dr. Ahmet ALMAÇa
aKBB AD, Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, KOCAELİ The prevalence of the otitis media is highest in infancy because of the immature immune system and insufficiency of the functions of Eustachian tube. In this period, the structure of the external auditory canal, tympanic membrane and middle ear are very different from older children. These properties in neonate and infant lead to some difficulties and mistakes in diagnosis of otitis media. Because of systemic symptoms which dominates the clinic of otitis media in this patient’s, parents usually trends to apply to pediatric clinics. Otitis media and hearing loss of infancy requires a more carefull approach because of its negative effects on speech and language development and also on ability of communicative skills. Keywords: Neonate, infant, otitis mediaTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2005, 1(7):30-36
