Tympanosclerosis
Dr. İbrahim HIZALANa
aKBB AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Tympanosclerosis can be described as a sequel of the tympanic cavity due to hyalin degeneration of the lamina propria. It is an inactive and non invasive process. An operation should be indicated because of accompanying hearing loss. In perforated cases, the classical indications of tympanoplasty are valid. The functionnal success is determined by the degree of fixation of stapes. As it is not easy to evaluate it before surgery, it is very important to feel out the expectations of the patient and give detailed information about the probable functional results. In case of stapes fixation, forced mobilization can be risky and operations like stapedotomy are not promising because of poor long term results; than hearing aid use should be in mind as an alternative method. Keywords: Tympanosclerosis, myringosclerosis, ear, middleTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2005, 1(7):54-59
