Surgical Of Implants In Chronic Otitis Media
Dr. Levent SENNAROĞLUa
aKBB AD, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Although conductive hearing loss is usually encountered in chronic otitis media, sensorineural hearing loss is not infrequent. Cochlear implantation is indicated if there is bilateral severe to profound hearing loss where conventional hearing aids do not provide sufficient speech discrimination. If there is tympanic membrane perforation this should be closed by tympanoplasty in the first session, followed by cochlear implantation in the second stage. For patients with mastoidectomy cavity all the skin should be removed and implantation performed after total obliteration of the ear canal.
If the conductive or mixed type hearing loss cannot be operated or rehabilitated with hearing aids then bone anchored hearing aid can be performed for hearing rehabilitation. Keywords: Chronic otitis media, cochlear implantation, tympanoplasty, mastoidectomy, BAHATurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2005, 1(7):124-127
