Oropharyngeal Involvement In Systemic Disease And Specific Oropharyngeal Infections

aKulak Burun Boğaz AD, GATA, ANKARA Numerous diseases or syndromes have a symptom or sign in oral cavity and oropharynx. The lesions or signs in oral cavity and oropharynx are stomatitis, ulcers, vesicles/bullae, edema/angioedema, dry mucosa or ptyalism, gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth abnormalities, white lesions (lichen planus), pigmentation, hemorrhagic lesions, sensation/taste abnormalities and halitosis. Causative systemic disease have been classified in to a) congenital and genetic disorders, b) idiopathic diseases c) metabolic/endocrine disorders, d) malignant diseases, e) hematologic diseases, f) connective tissue diseases, g) immunologic diseases, h) neurologic diseases i) dietary deficiencies, and j) drugs, and main features have been investigated particularly considering oral signs. Finally, specific infections of oropharynx were emphasized. The signs aforementioned may be a component of full-blown disease or first signs of a disease.
