Radiological Assessment ın Cochlear Implantation
Dr. Cem BİLGENa
aKBB Hastalıkları AD, Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Since cochlear implantation is an expensive and a surgically difficult procedure, patient selection is one of the most important steps of this technology. Many medical, psychological and social criteria should be considered in this selection. Radiological assessment has an important role in patient selection, at least, as these criteria have. By means of a careful radiological assessment, it is possible to detect preoperatively the pathologies which make cochlear implantation impossible or difficult. Similarly, it would be admonitory for the possible surgical complications to recognize the anatomic variations or anomalies which can cause difficulties during the surgery. In the postopeartive period, radiological identification of the localization of the cochlear implant is important both for the evaluation of the functional status and for the medicolegal problems. Keywords: Cochlear implantation, radiology, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imagingTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(10):31-36
