Dr. Sefa DEREKÖYa
aKulak Burun Boğaz AD, Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, AFYON A careful medical history of the patient with a neck mass provide important clues to the diagnosis. The first considerations are the age of the patient, the localization and the duration of the neck mass. Inflammatory and congenital causes are found commonly in the etiology of neck masses of the children and young adults. Malignancy must always be ruled out in the patients in the patients older than 40 who use tobacco and alcohol. The factors which increase risk for malignant disease were to be asked. Different local and systemic symptoms other than the neck mass should also be determined. Subjective and family histories of the patient are also of utmost importance in differential diagnosis. Keywords: Neck, mass, diagnosis, differential, medical history takingTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(36):1-5
