Clinical Evaluation In Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: Anamnesis (snoring, Witnessed Apnea, Excessive Daytime Sleepiness)

aGöğüs Hastalıkları AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a syndrome characterized by recurrent episodes of upper airway obstruction which demonstrates (recurrent episodes of) cessation of respiration (apnea) or decrements in airflow (hypopneas). Many symptoms are non-spesific that may have other different causes. The major sign and symptoms of OSA are loud and irregular snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness and witnessed apnea. Additionaly clinical picture may include many other symptoms. OSAS has been described as a public health problem comparable to smoking in aspect of its effects upon society. OSAS has been linked to various clinical or social consequences such as increased cardiovascular mortality, loss in work productivity, increased vehicular crashes.Keywords: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, symptomsTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(23):38-41
