Dr. H.Hakan COŞKUNa
aKulak Burun Boğaz AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA The patient with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome has to be evaluated in the right way in order to be treated properly. The first and the most important step of evaluation is the physical examination. The patient undergoes evaluation by all the related specialties but the otolaryngologist plays the most important role. The purpose of otolaryngologic evaluation is to diagnose the problems causing the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome besides identifiying the problems that may interfere with the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices. The main components of physical examination are inspection of the nose, oral caivity and oropharynx and visualization of the upper respiratory tract with flexible endoscope. Keywords: Sleep apnea, obstructive, physical examinationTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(23):42-4
