Treatment Of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: Other Non-surgical Treatments (intranasal Spreys, Nasal Dilators)
Dr. Nazan NALCI SAVAŞ,a Dr. Mehmet KARADAĞa
aGöğüs Hastalıkları AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA The obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) results in excessive daytime sleepiness, impaired quality of life, and is associated with an increased risk of traffic accidents and cardiovascular disease. Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), the standard treatment for OSAS provides immediate relief of symptoms and has only minor side effects. Nevertheless, an alternative treatment is needed if CPAP is not feasible for medical or psychological reasons. The Nozovent nostril dilator improves nasal breathingto the same degree as topical decongestants and reduces mouth dryness. The medium CPAP pressure can be significantly reduced with the dilator. Keywords: OSAS, intranasal spreys, nostril dilatators, nozoventTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(23):86-89
