Malignant Diseases Of The Salivary Glands

Malignant tumors of the salivary glands are one of the most extraordinary and challenging tumor species in human body. The main reasons for this characteristic feature is the relative infrequency of the tumors and inconsistent classification despite outnumerous varieties of the tumor species. Besides, the clinical behaviour of the malignant salivary tumors is highly variable. One tumor species may appear relatively innocent whereas the other may behave in a very aggressive manner.
In this article, a general classification of malignant tumors of salivary glands has been presented and genuine features have been mentioned briefly. Problems that may be encountered during clinical evaluation of a patient presenting with a salivary gland tumor are emphasized and original materials have been presented for case samples.Keywords: Salivary glands, neoplasmsTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(36):10-21
