Benign Tumours Of The Salivary Glands
Dr. Cengiz YAĞIZ,a Dr. Emin KARAMANa
aKulak Burun Boğaz ABD, İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Tumours of the salivary glands, rarely seen, constitute around 2% of the head and neck tumours. Female to male ratio is almost equal in both genes. They can be seen in various clinical presentations due to the gland being affected. These tumours are mostly seen in the parotid glands. There is no definite explanation about the etiology of these tumours. Salivary tumours are presented slowly growing, asymtomatic masses which could be well defined in medical history and physical examination. Imaging techniques, ultrasound, and high resolution CT and MRI are helpfull to define the extend of these tumours. However, final diagnosis should be made an histological basis, FNAB (fine needle aspiration biopsy) is the standart procedure to reach a definite diagnosis. Keywords: Salivary glands, neoplasmsTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(36):22-26
