Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology And Frozen Section Of Thyroid Cancers

Due to the controversial and non-standardized results of numerous studies, the debate about the roles and advantages of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and frozen section (FS) in the management of thyroid lesions still remains. Healthcare centers should have a protocol for these cases considering their own available facilities and experience of the surgeon /pathology / cytopathology teams. It is shown that FS does not add any valuable information to the benign and malignant FNAC results. For that reason, FS should be reserved for inadequate or suspicious FNAC cases.
