Prognostic And Risk Factors In Differentiated Thyroid Carcinomas
Dr. Ahmet Ömer İKİZa
aKBB ABD, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR In majority of patients with well differentiated thyroid carcinoma, clinical outcome is good and mortality is not related to disease itself. However, in a small amount of patients it is not possible to control the disease and these patients may die of malignancy. There are various prognostic scoring systems to stratify patients into good and bad prognostic groups at the time of diagnosis and therapy. By using these validated scoring systems in an appropriate way, it is mostly possible to withhold unnecessary aggressive therapy in patients with good prognostic factors and to avoid practising inadequate treatment for patients with bad prognostic factors. Keywords: Thyroid neoplasm, risk factor, carcinoma, papillary, follicularTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(49):23-26
