Thyroidectomy Surgical Technique

The key for succesfull thyroid surgery includes knowledge of surgical anatomy and its variations, appropriate surgical technique, and sufficient exposure of the surgical field. The most important complications of this surgery, i.e. recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis and permanent hypoparathyroidism should be kept in mind. The patient is appropriately positioned and an incision to provide adequate exposure is performed. The procedure is carried out by identifying relevant anatomical structures.
