Laryngeal Nerve Monitoring During Thyroidectomy
Dr. Enis Alpin GÜNERİa
aKBB ABD, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Intraoperative laryngeal nerve monitoring during thyroidectomy is useful in many situations. Indications of the procedure include short thick neck, previous neck surgery or radiotherapy, revision surgery, big goitre, difficulty in nerve identification due to anatomic variations and preoperative vocal cord dysfunction. The most important benefits of intraoperative laryngeal nerve monitoring are the ability of the procedure to definitely identify the nerves from other tissues and test nerve integrity at the end of the surgical procedure. Keywords: Thyroidectomy, laryngeal nerves, monitoring, intraoperativeTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(49):83-89
